Reports of vengeful spirits seeking justice for themselves have been heard throughout history. In the last century, there was a case of a robbery-murder where various signs led the police to the real culprit, guided by the victim’s spirit.
The story dates back to 1977. A woman named Teresita Basa worked at a hospital, but a malicious killer targeted her. When police received the emergency call, they found Teresita’s apartment ransacked. Her body had been severely mutilated—partially unclothed, stabbed multiple times, and later set on fire by the killer.
The investigation went on for several weeks without catching the murderer. The only lead was a note that read, “Go to AS to buy a ticket,” which was considered noteworthy. Following this, the police traced the call to a couple, Jose and Remy Chai. The couple revealed a crucial clue, pointing to a hospital employee named Allan Showery—the initials “AS” matching the note. They explained that Allan had come to Teresita’s home supposedly to fix her TV, but instead killed her and stole her belongings.
At first, the police were puzzled by how much the Chai couple knew. The surprising answer came from Jose: his wife, Remy, had been possessed three times by the spirit of the late Teresita, who had detailed Allan’s crimes to them. Acting on this lead, police searched Allan’s apartment and indeed found Teresita’s ring and pendant. With the evidence in hand, Allan was arrested, later confessed, and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Murder Cases Solved by Vengeful Spirits
- In 2013, Adrian Dao admitted to murdering Jennifer Stewart. He claimed that after the crime, while walking outside, he saw the victim’s ghost.
- In 2017, Terry Charles, a serial killer, confessed while in prison to two additional murders from 1984 and 1985. He said the victims, Joan Mack and Christopher Hall, appeared to him in his cell, staring at him relentlessly, as if consuming his mind.
- Earlier that same year, Jose Ferreira admitted that in 1982, he pushed 13-year-old Carly Ann Chope down a staircase after she refused his advances, resulting in her death. Carly’s mother later credited the breakthrough in the case to her daughter: 33 years after the crime, Ferreira claimed that Carly’s spirit had haunted him, ultimately compelling him to confess.
