Tucked away in the scenic and quaint town of Goshen, New York, Dr. Jennifer Liang’s acupuncture practice at Kingsfoil Acupuncture has become a lifeline for patients seeking relief from chronic pain, mobility issues, and age-related health challenges. Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), her approach emphasizes treating the whole body rather than isolating a single symptom — a philosophy that patients say has delivered profound, life-altering results.

Dr. Liang’s work ranges from addressing lower back pain and arthritis to anxiety, insomnia, and hormonal imbalances. “We are here to help people [tackle] lower back pain, shoulder pain, headaches, insomnia, and anxiety,” she explains, adding, “For women suffering from menopause symptoms, we use traditional Chinese medicine to help soothe those pains and aches.”

Healing from the inside out

For thousands of years, acupuncture has been a cornerstone of TCM, offering a natural way to restore balance and support the body’s healing abilities. By stimulating specific points along the body’s meridians, acupuncturists aim to improve circulation and organ function, reduce inflammation, and promote overall physiological stability.

For patients like Petrina T., the impact of acupuncture has gone far beyond pain management. Petrina, who recently lost 25 pounds through disciplined lifestyle changes, credits acupuncture as part of a broader health journey focused on inflammation reduction and bodily balance. “Within three months, I lost about 25 pounds,” she said, emphasizing the importance of consistency to treat a slew of issues. “You can’t cheat because you cheat yourself,” she added.

While Petrina carefully followed a low-carb diet and structured meals, she also noted how holistic health approaches, including acupuncture, reinforced her discipline and sense of bodily awareness. “It helps to boost your immune system, plus also helps with inflammation and digestion,” she said, referring to changes she made to support her overall health.

Yet it is among Dr. Liang’s elderly patients where the most striking transformations appear. One 86-year-old patient described coming to acupuncture after what she called “the worst year of my life,” marked by debilitating knee pain and declining mobility. “At one point, I couldn’t even climb up the stairs,” she recalled, adding, “I was getting to the point where I thought I was going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.”

Tried and true methods

But after discovering Dr. Liang through a local newspaper and beginning twice-weekly treatments, she noticed steady improvements. “The best part about acupuncture is that she works from head to toe,” the patient said. “When she treats you. She treats your whole body. She doesn’t just treat one point.”

The patient detailed relief from multiple long-standing issues, including severe arthritis in her feet and a persistent facial twitch that had affected her vision. “After Jennifer got a hold of me, my twitch is now under control,” she said. “She has controlled my knee and done miracles with my feet because I have tons of arthritis in my feet. They don’t even hurt now.”

Equally notable was the gentleness of the treatment itself. “I don’t have any pain from the needles. She’s so gentle with them,” the patient said, adding, “Thank God she knows what she’s doing because I haven’t got a clue, but she knows where to put all those needles.”

For older patients, acupuncture often becomes a last stop before invasive and expensive medical interventions. “Before you go for a knee replacement, check what an acupuncturist,” the patient advised. “It’s not like she’s gonna cure it, but it sure as heck will feel 100 percent better.”

Rooted in history

Dr. Liang’s work reflects a growing interest in traditional Chinese medicine among Western patients seeking alternatives to medication-heavy care. Her treatments focus on restoring circulation, reducing inflammation, and rebalancing systems that may have deteriorated with age or chronic stress.

Patients consistently describe feeling heard and understood during sessions — an element many say is missing in conventional healthcare. “All she’ll ask you is, where does it hurt? And she’ll deal with it,” said the 86-year-old patient. For her, the outcome has been nothing short of transformative. “If I were to say that she has been my guard, my guardian angel, she definitely has put me back in business,” she said. “She has really given me a new lease on life.”

As acupuncture continues gaining traction in modern medicine, practitioners like Dr. Jennifer Liang stand at the intersection of ancient tradition and modern need, offering patients not just symptom relief, but renewed confidence in their bodies’ ability to heal and thrive.
