The death of 37-year-old mainland Chinese celebrity Yu Menglong has reportedly spurred an increasing number of Chinese citizens to recognize the “demonic nature” of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), leading to a surge in declarations to renounce their membership in the Party, Youth League, and Young Pioneers organizations—known as the “Three Withdrawals” or Tuidang—in a concerted effort to sever ties with the regime.

Many citizens expressed their shock and awakening online. Some wrote, “The CCP’s evil surpasses the limits of human imagination,” while others declared, “Human life is created by the Creator. It’s time to cut ties with the devil and walk with the divine.”

On Sept. 11, Yu Menglong reportedly “fell to his death” at the Sunshine Upper East residential complex in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. Police quickly ruled the case an “accidental fall after drinking,” but public skepticism surged. Despite widespread outcry, authorities refused to open an official investigation.

Chinese media outlets were ordered to remain silent, while officials have implemented a comprehensive blockade on information, clearing search results and silencing dissenting voices online. In contrast, major international media outlets, including the BBC and Central News Agency (CNA), have reported on the case.

Many believe Yu’s death was linked to his refusal to comply with the entertainment industry’s “unspoken rules” and may have involved the abuse of power by political elites.

The case has continued to draw attention and escalate in public debate for over a month.

Mass ‘Three Withdrawals’ movement

According to the Global Service Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Yu’s tragedy has served as a catalyst, prompting numerous Chinese citizens to see the CCP’s true nature, and to formally renounce their ties with the regime.

Statements posted to the withdrawal website reflect the public’s disillusionment:

  • Mr. Li Jingming from Liaoning stated, “The Yu Menglong case sends chills down my spine. I firmly withdraw from all Communist organizations. I was deceived into joining the Young Pioneers and the Communist Youth League at school. From now on, I want nothing to do with them. He added, “Human life is created by the Creator; cut ties with the devil and walk with the divine.”
  • A user named “Liusha” wrote, “The Yu Menglong incident was my wake-up call —a government that cannot be trusted by the people, a government where grievances cannot be aired, a government that builds its interests on the backs of all its citizens, a government that does not treat the populace as human—it is not worthy of people’s support. Good will be rewarded and evil will be punished. That day is not far away.”
  • Citizen Lu Yuqing noted, “After learning about Yu Menglong’s case, I began to search for the CCP’s true face and realized that China is a new feudal autocratic dynasty — ordinary people are nothing more than slaves to those in power. The sad thing is that many of us don’t even realize it, or we think it doesn’t matter. We even praise them! It’s absurd. I used to feel proud to have joined the Youth League, but now I see — they’re not human. They harvest organs, disregard life, exploit the people. The Chinese Communist Party is truly disgusting.”
  • Another citizen “Good Lemon” wrote: “This whole ‘Little Yu’ case hit me like a hammer. I never imagined the CCP could be so corrupt. It’s 2025, yet they’re still destroying lives, twisting the truth, silencing justice, and erasing people who speak out. This evil is beyond human imagination. They preach morality while chasing only money, power, and protecting their own illegitimate offspring. I can’t stay silent any longer. I’m withdrawing to take a stand — I refuse to be part of such an organization.”

International media and scholars react

With public discourse continuing to intensify more than a month after the event, international scrutiny remains high. For example, BBC and Foreign Policy have published reports examining the case.

Taiwanese scholar Professor Hong Yaonan commented on the incident, terming it the “Yu Menglong Effect.” He argued that the case reflects a broader systemic trend: the CCP’s control now extends beyond simple speech censorship into a “new stage of emotional governance,” where the state attempts to control even the public’s expression of “grief” itself.

Professor Hong highlighted the absurdity of this control, stating that in an authoritarian state, the realization is shocking: even mourning can be deemed illegal, and private feelings can be recast as a “political problem.”

According to data from the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP, as of October 25, 2025, more than 453.55 million Chinese citizens have publicly declared their withdrawal from the Party, the Youth League, and the Young Pioneers.

Ten reasons to withdraw from the CCP

Former CCP Central Committee member and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection Wang Youqun, who once served as a political writer for senior official Wei Jianxing, published an article on Nov. 20, 2024, outlining ten reasons Chinese people should make the “Three Withdrawals”:

  1. Do not be descendants of Marx and Lenin; return to being descendants of Yan and Huang.
  2. Reject Marxism-Leninism; return to traditional moral values.
  3. Do not bear the guilt of the CCP’s blood-stained crimes; stay away from evil.
  4. Understand that the CCP is not China, and it does not represent the Chinese people.
  5. Recognize the CCP as the world’s biggest traitorous party; don’t be deceived by its false “patriotism.”
  6. Let go of hatred and return to harmony — “A gentleman seeks harmony without uniformity.”
  7. Stop fighting against heaven, earth, and humanity; instead, live in harmony with them.
  8. No longer assist the wicked; choose goodness and righteousness.
  9. Reject atheism; return to reverence for the divine.
  10. Erase the mark of the (CCP) beast, and you will be protected by heaven.

Wang concluded: “Twenty years ago, The Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party had already pronounced the CCP’s death sentence. Today, humanity has entered a historic moment — the era of ‘Heaven’s elimination of the CCP.’ The Chinese Communist Party will soon be completely removed from the earth. For those who still have goodness in their hearts but have not yet withdrawn, now is the time. Declare your withdrawal and ensure your safety.”

A warning issued 20 years ago

As early as Jan. 12, 2005, The Epoch Times published a solemn statement to the Chinese people:

“The Communist Party’s end is near. Yet this evil cult has committed unforgivable crimes against humanity and against the divine. Heaven will surely bring justice to this demon.

If, one day, the Divine instructs a person to settle accounts with the Communist Party, those so-called resolute evil Party members will definitely not be spared. Therefore, The Epoch Times solemnly declares: All those who have ever joined the Communist Party, the Communist Youth League, or the Young Pioneers organization (marked by the evil CCP), should quickly withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations.

Once the day comes when this devil cult is brought to justice, the records kept by The Epoch Times can serve as proof for all those who have declared their withdrawal from the Communist Party and its other organizations. The net of heaven is vast, and good and evil are clearly distinguished; the sea of suffering has its bounds, and life and death hang upon a single thought. People who have been deceived by the most evil devil cult in history, and those who have been marked by the evil as with the mark of the beast, please seize this fleeting opportunity!”
