According to the Daily Mail, conservative media personality Megyn Kelly recently revealed that her “dream ticket” for the 2028 Republican presidential race would be Vice President JD Vance paired with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. She believes this combination would be “unstoppable” in the election.
In an interview, Kelly said, “I think it would be JD Vance, and I truly hope his running mate is Marco Rubio. I believe the two of them together would achieve a sweeping victory—this is a dream team.” She also mentioned that former President Trump has expressed similar views and has publicly praised both figures on multiple occasions.
On Air Force One, President Trump reportedly said: “JD is great, the Vice President is outstanding, and Marco is great too. If they team up, it would be an unstoppable combination.”
Meanwhile, Kelly said she hopes the Democrats would continue with Vice President Kamala Harris as their candidate. “God, please let Kamala run again,” she joked. “If I’ve ever done anything good, let her be a candidate again.” However, according to the prediction site Kalshi, the current frontrunner in the Democratic camp is California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Kelly mocked Newsom for imitating Trump’s style on social media: “It’s so sad. Trump’s style worked because it was genuinely him; copying someone else just looks hollow.” She did acknowledge that Newsom is physically impressive and “a highly competitive left-wing candidate within the Democratic Party.”

Kelly gives Trump an ‘A’: Calls him a ‘fighter who never backs down’
Discussing a potential second term for President Trump, Kelly gave him an “A” grade. She said: “I think he’s done very well. The only reason he didn’t get an A+ is that Congress passed few laws, so most progress relied on executive orders.” She noted that this is almost inevitable without a 60-seat majority in the Senate.
Kelly praised Trump for “fighting through every battle” and called him “a fighter who never backs down.” She sees the biggest challenges facing the current administration as foreign policy and inflation.
“U.S.-China relations are complex, and Vladimir Putin continues to test Trump’s trust limits,” Kelly said. “Domestically, people are still feeling the pressure of inflation, which is the aftermath of Biden-era policies.”
She added: “Trump is working to solve these problems. His long-term tariff policies may yield results, but it will take time.”
According to Politico, two sources close to the administration revealed that Secretary of State Rubio privately told confidants that if Vance decides to run for president in 2028, he would “fully support him.” This indicates that the Republican Party has begun thinking about the transition of power after Trump.
One source close to Rubio said: “Marco has made it clear that if JD is willing, he would be the party’s ideal candidate.” Another insider added: “He will do everything he can to support the Vice President.”
The latest Politico poll shows that among 2024 Trump voters, 35 percent hope Vance becomes the 2028 presidential candidate, while only 2 percent mentioned Rubio. Analysts believe a Vance-Rubio ticket could solidify Trump’s base but would still need to appeal to moderate voters.
Republican insiders warn that without Trump running, the party may struggle to generate enthusiasm, making succession a sensitive issue. Trump campaign director James Blair urged potential candidates to “focus on the 2026 midterms first, rather than personal ambitions.”
Currently, neither the White House nor the two potential candidates have publicly commented. However, Vance told the New York Post podcast that it is “too early” to discuss a 2028 running mate but called Rubio his “best friend” in government.
“We often have lunch together, talk about politics and life,” Vance said with a laugh. “Trump mentioned this six months ago, but it’s still too early to discuss it now.”
