Beijing Steps Up Crackdown of COVID-19 Vaccine Victims as Influenza Cases Spike

As vaccine injuries mount across China, Beijing has responded not with transparency but with suppressive force. From disappearances to violent detentions, even critically ill victims are being targeted

As public anger over China’s COVID-19 vaccine injuries continues to build, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is escalating its suppression of victims seeking justice. Over the past week alone, multiple Beijing petitioners have been detained, harassed, or forcibly “disappeared.” One victim’s protest, outside the National Health Commission, has drawn national attention across social media.

According to the rights organization Minsheng Guancha, December marks three full years since China’s COVID-19 vaccine victims began petitioning for recognition and compensation. But instead of helping them, authorities have intensified repression.

Kidnapped by the authorities

On Nov. 27, long-time Beijing rights defender Qian Dalong was summoned by local police, then vanished. He has not returned home since and his Weibo, WeChat groups, and online presence have been wiped.

Qian, a COVID-19 vaccine victim himself, has spent five years fighting for accountability after suffering severe complications he says were caused by inoculation. Qian was detained twice, denied medical care, left unable to work, and pushed into extreme financial hardship as a result of the vaccine.

Despite his condition, authorities responded to his petitions by silencing him rather than investigating. During China’s Two Sessions earlier this year, Qian once again became a “stability maintenance target,” with police guarding him 24 hours a day to prevent him from speaking out. Outraged victims have circulated joint petitions demanding his release.

Other victims who voiced support for Qian have also faced retaliation. On Dec. 1, Sun Nana, who developed lupus after receiving a COVID vaccine, traveled to Beijing for medical treatment. She was staying in a hotel when police forced their way in. Sun says she was then dragged and slammed to the floor, despite her fragile condition.

According to Sun: “Police ID number 023219. Only one officer came. December 1, Yaoshi Hotel in Beijing. His attitude was terrible. I told him I was feeling very unwell. “We are vaccine victims, not criminal suspects. I’ve come to Beijing for more than four years seeking treatment. Why treat me like this? Are you paying for my medical care? No.”

She continued, “Why treat a seriously ill patient like this? You’re all forcing me to a dead end. This is beyond injustice!”

‘You’re responsible for our deaths’

On Dec. 2, another Beijing victim, Liu Yan, staged a dramatic protest in front of the National Health Commission (NHC). Liu developed ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) after receiving the Sinovac vaccine and says she now has “almost no time left.” During the protest, she was heard saying: “NHC Director Lei Haichao — come out! Stop playing dead!”

She continued: “Before the vaccine, I was a law-abiding citizen. After vaccination, I became a target for precise suppression. Who caused us this harm? We are victims, not criminals! I’ve been detained five times, put under illegal residential surveillance for 16 months. Is this how a civilized, law-abiding nation treats unarmed victims? Where is justice? Where is conscience? At the vaccination site, four security guards blocked me. Who gave them the authority to restrict my freedom? Changping District leaders are breaking the law knowingly!”

Video circulating online shows Liu shouting slogans:

  • “COVID vaccines caused deaths and disabilities!
  • Forensic evaluations were falsified — completely unfair!
  • They shirk responsibility and treat lives like grass!
  • Give us back our health! Take responsibility!”

Lei Haichao, the official she named, currently serves as Director of the National Health Commission.

Netizens express outrage

  • “My heart is broken. Liu Yan bravely exposed the truth about Sinovac causing ALS. The NHC is cold-blooded,” wrote one netizen.
  • Another added, “My relatives died after the vaccine. I stand with all the victims. The CCP always bullies the weak.”
  • “Only by fighting to the end do victims have any chance of survival,” said another.

Since late 2019, the CCP aggressively pushed its rushed, low-quality COVID vaccines, often through coercive measures. But severe side effects rapidly emerged, including:

  • Lung nodules
  • Leukemia
  • Diabetes
  • Sudden cardiac death
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • and Countless unexplained deaths.

Chinese artist Ji Feng told “The Epoch Times” that, “Recently in China, when people die, most believe it’s related to the vaccine. The majority of deaths are among young and middle-aged people. Almost all who died had received three doses.”

Instead of acknowledging injuries, investigating failures, or compensating victims, authorities have opted to intensify the cover-up by enforcing 24-hour police surveillance, censorship, criminalization of petitions and protests, and in some cases, even resorting to physical violence or forced disappearances against those afflicted.

The suffering of China’s COVID-19 vaccine victims has become a mirror reflecting a system that fears truth more than tragedy, notes Ji.
