Senior Officials in China’s Military Logistics Removed Amid Ongoing Crackdown

With the logistics system long viewed as a sensitive and corruption-prone sector of the PLA, the latest shake-up is fueling speculation of a broader purge and intensifying power consolidation within China’s armed forces

China’s military, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), has been rocked by new turbulence as officials linked to the Central Military Commission’s Logistics Support Department continue to fall from power. Most recently, He Song, a deputy minister of the CMC Logistics Support Department, had his membership in the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference revoked.

He’s superior, Zhang Lin, the department’s minister, was officially announced to have fallen last year. Former political commissar Guo Puxiao, an Air Force general, was also rumored to have been taken down in new high-level purges within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

After the reported detention of Zhang Youxia, his former superior Liao Xilong, who once served as head of the PLA General Logistics Department, also died under “unusual” circumstances. Observers say these developments suggest a sweeping purge of the military’s logistics apparatus.

He Song loses CPPCC status

According to state media Xinhua News, the 46th chairman’s meeting of the 14th CPPCC National Committee was held in Beijing on Feb. 6. Politburo Standing Committee member Wang Huning presided. The meeting approved a decision to revoke the CPPCC membership of Tian Xuebin and He Song. The Politburo serves as China’s top ruling body.

While some media previously identified He Song as a former deputy general manager of China Electronics Technology Group, public information indicates that the He Song named in the official announcement was in fact a military-affiliated CPPCC member who served as deputy minister of the CMC Logistics Support Department.

A PLA Daily report published on March 4, 2025, noted that CPPCC member He Song had “focused on the construction of the western land-sea corridor.” Official reports also show that He Song appeared at events in 2022 and 2024 in his capacity as a CMC logistics deputy minister, confirming he was the same individual.

Analysts note that logistics units have long been considered corruption-prone, and He Song’s removal follows the downfall of his superior Zhang Lin.

Logistics Minister Zhang Lin falls

From April 2019 to January 2022, General Gao Jin served as minister of the CMC Logistics Support Department. In January 2022, Lieutenant General Zhang Lin succeeded him.

He Song served as Zhang Lin’s deputy from 2022 through mid-2025. On Oct. 16, 2025, Chinese authorities announced that Zhang Lin and several other senior officers were stripped of their National People’s Congress delegate status for “suspected serious disciplinary and legal violations.”

Public records show Zhang Lin, born in 1965, previously held key logistics roles in the Navy and Armed Police before becoming minister in 2022.

Commentator Zhou Xiaohui suggested Zhang Lin’s rapid promotion was likely tied to former political work chief Miao Hua, who oversaw new military appointments and held significant influence over senior officer advancement. Zhou argued that the logistics system provides “many opportunities for corruption,” making Zhang Lin’s investigation unsurprising.

A broader purge underway?

Guo Puxiao, who served as political commissar of the logistics department from 2019 to 2022, has also been rumored to be under investigation. On Nov. 26, 2025, an X account claimed that multiple senior Air Force and military academy officials had “all fallen.” Chinese-language encyclopedias reportedly removed entries related to some of these figures, fueling speculation.

Many of the officers linked to these rumors previously worked within the logistics system, underscoring its sensitivity. The death of General Liao Xilong on Jan. 23, 2026, one day before Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli were officially announced to have fallen, has drawn renewed attention.

Overseas organization WOIPFG published a report in August 2024 titled an investigation into Liao’s role in the persecution of Falun Gong and alleged organ harvesting. The report claimed that after the April 25, 1999 incident, Jiang Zemin sought Liao’s support to suppress Falun Gong, alleging Liao helped fabricate intelligence accusing Falun Gong of political subversion.

After July 20, 1999, the report said Liao ordered intensive monitoring and массов arrests of practitioners. WOIPFG further alleged that the PLA General Logistics Department oversaw a vast military hospital system and played a central role in organ transplant operations, claiming: “Live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners was personally ordered by Jiang Zemin, and the PLA General Logistics Department was specifically responsible for carrying it out.”

The report also cited alleged investigative recordings and overseas commentary calling for continued accountability. Taken together, the removal of He Song, the downfall of Zhang Lin, rumors surrounding Guo Puxiao, and the death of Liao Xilong point to intensifying upheaval within one of the PLA’s most powerful and opaque institutions.

As China’s top leadership continues reshuffling its military structures, analysts say the Logistics Support Department has become a focal point in the CCP’s internal struggle for control over the armed forces.
