The U.S. will hold congressional elections this November. On March 11, President Donald Trump suddenly posted on social media criticizing his own lawmaker, Thomas Massie, saying he “hopes he loses badly,” sparking heated discussion online.

According to media reports, on March 11, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social: “I dare say, Congressman Massie is absolutely the worst Republican in U.S. Congressional history, even worse than Crazy Liz Cheney, Crybaby Adam Kinzinger, and the traitor Marjorie Greene.”

This November, the U.S. will hold congressional elections, and Massie is currently campaigning in the Kentucky primary. Trump added: “I love Kentucky very much, and I hope Massie loses badly.” The post immediately drew intense reactions from netizens.

In February this year, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the PROTECT Taiwan Act with 395 votes in favor and 2 against. The bill requires that if the Chinese Communist Party “takes action” against Taiwan, the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, and Securities and Exchange Commission will seek to exclude China from multiple international financial organizations, including the G20 and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

Of the two opposing votes, one came from Republican Congressman Thomas Massie, and the other from Democratic Congressman Gregorio Casar.

Massie’s key reason for voting against the bill was his opposition to U.S. economic sanctions or intervention in other countries’ affairs, which he believes could harm U.S. interests.

It is reported that Massie was also the only lawmaker to vote against the 2019 Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, citing that the U.S. should not interfere in other countries’ internal affairs. He told the public that he agreed with 90 percent of the bill’s content but opposed sanctions on the Chinese Communist Party. Similarly, Massie also voted against the Uyghur Human Rights Act for the same reason.

Additionally, Massie has been one of the few members of Congress to vote against sanction measures targeting Russia, Iran, and North Korea. Because he frequently votes against bills in overwhelming majorities, Politico magazine dubbed him “Mr. No” in 2014.
