Midnight Horror in Canada: A Close Encounter With a ‘Werewolf’

The incident took place late at night in a rural part of Canada, back in 2022, around midnight in late June. Merlock and his girlfriend K were lying in bed, enjoying the cool air after a heatwave. As the night wore on, the temperature dropped, so they opened the window and watched the curtains drift in the breeze.

Suddenly, Merlock noticed a faint light out of the corner of his eye. It came through a gap in the curtains — the motion light in the backyard seemed to have been triggered. K got up to look but saw nothing, so she returned to bed.

Less than a minute later, the motion light came on again. This time Merlock got up. At first, he saw nothing, then he noticed what looked like a “dog’s head” over the backyard fence, with glowing eyes and a white body that stood out sharply in the dark. He instinctively said, “It’s a dog,” but within seconds realized something was off — the fence was over 150 cm high. A dog couldn’t just poke its head over without climbing, and he couldn’t see any paws or body on the fence. He suddenly realized it wasn’t a dog at all.

Startled, he rushed to the corner of the room, opened the gun cabinet, and grabbed a shotgun and an old hunting rifle passed down from his grandfather. He stuffed ammunition into his pockets and loaded the guns. He handed one to K, told her to prepare to open the window, and readied himself to fire at anything outside.

But when K quickly opened the window, everything outside was pitch black. A few seconds later, they heard a scraping metal sound — the gate between the yard and the forest was opening. Merlock held his breath and glanced at K, who had turned pale. She whispered, trembling: “It’s there…”

The motion light came on again. A huge creature stepped through the open gate — a “wolf,” standing upright, much taller than a human, at least two meters. It was covered in coarse white fur, with sharp claws and glowing eyes.

It touched the garage wall with one long forelimb, sniffed the air, then turned toward the window and locked eyes with Merlock and K. In that moment, a gunshot rang out — Merlock had fired into its chest. The recoil shook him. The creature lurched back, moved its limbs, then sagged before slowly lifting its head again, blood at its mouth, fixing its gaze on them and letting out a hoarse growl.

Merlock yelled, “Run!” He slammed the window shut and pulled K away. A roar erupted outside, followed by a heavy impact against the side of the house. They heard wood splintering. In the chaos, Merlock pushed K toward the bathroom, telling her to hide with the dog. He reloaded while moving, then shut the bathroom door. The three of them huddled inside, with Merlock aiming at the door, ready to shoot. They could hear the creature moving around outside, growling from time to time. With the bathroom as their only exit, they were terrified.

Eventually, the noises stopped. When dawn light appeared, Merlock carefully looked through the vent and saw daylight. He slowly stepped out with the gun ready. Everything inside the house looked intact. Relieved, he sank to the floor. K came out with the dog, which sniffed around as if sensing an intruder had been there.

Later, Merlock called his uncle and told him to bring a gun. About 45 minutes later, his uncle and cousin arrived with rifles and gear. After hearing what happened, the three searched the entire house and property. They found only a crack in the wood near the window, a small dried bloodstain on the wall, and a drop of blood where the shot had been fired. They then searched the surrounding forest for hours but found no tracks or claw marks, so they eventually gave up.

Merlock said that ever since that night, every summer he hears something large in the forest — sounds of trees being struck or strange noises. He still has no idea what the creature was, but it reminded him of a “werewolf” from the movies.
