According to The Epoch Times, to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the “June 4th” pro-democracy movement, several groups including the Chinese Students and Scholars Federation (overseas), the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, and the China Democracy Party National Committee jointly held a march and rally on May 31 in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., calling to “overthrow the Chinese Communist Party.”
Organizers stated that the Chinese people are increasingly recognizing the Communist Party and hope for its early collapse. They also called on people within the system to leave the CCP as soon as possible.
On the afternoon of May 30, in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., many young overseas democracy activists chanted slogans such as “Free China! Down with the Chinese Communist Party!” expressing their protest against the CCP’s authoritarian rule. Thirty-seven years later, Chinese people both inside and outside the country have not forgotten the Tiananmen Massacre. On the contrary, China’s harsh realities have awakened more people to the nature of the Communist Party.
Wei Jingsheng, chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Movement Joint Conference, said that during the time of June 4, students even went to the front of the Great Hall of the People and knelt to request talks with the Communist Party. Now, however, no one has such an idea anymore. People are now thinking about “how to undermine the Communist Party from within and how to bring about its collapse sooner.” He believes this represents a major, fundamental change.

At the event, Wang Juntao, chairman of the China Democracy Party National Committee, led many young members of the party in attending the rally. He believes that people do not forget June 4th because as long as the CCP’s authoritarian rule continues, each instance of persecution reawakens the pain of those who have suffered, naturally leading them to identify with June 4 and rise up in resistance.

Regarding the ongoing wave of withdrawals from the Party spreading both inside and outside China, Li Yingzhi, a participant in the June 4th movement and a graduate of Peking University’s History Department, expressed support. He also called on the “June 4th generation” within the system to “withdraw and leave the system, return to the conscience they had in their twenties.” He believes that “if the June 4th generation within the system quits the Party and leaves the CCP, China’s situation will change.”
It is reported that some members of the China Democracy Party also held a separate rally in front of the White House that day, calling on the United States to support the Chinese people in overthrowing the CCP’s authoritarian rule.
