A new report from Pew Research says that over three-quarters of Americans surveyed think the Chinese government doesn’t respect the rights of its citizens.

Similar consensus was seen in Europe, with more than eight in 10 people in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain agreeing.

The report also showed that many westerners do not have confidence in Chinese President Xi Jinping to do the right thing in world affairs. Overall, his ratings were mostly negative, and nearly six in 10 Americans don’t favor him.
