A 24-year-old woman from Shandong Province went to hospital with dizziness and nausea, and found out she had no cerebellum.

The cerebellum or “little brain” coordinates speaking, movement, and balance, yet the woman only had slightly slurred speech, and mildly unsteady walking.

According to the patient’s mother, the girl’s speech was unintelligible until she was six, and she didn’t learn to walk until age seven. Scientists studying her case wrote in an article in the journal Brain that she had never run nor jumped.

The woman’s condition is called cerebellar agenesis, and is very rare. Its cause is unknown.
