NATO scrambled jet fighters this week in response to abnormal movements of Russian strategic bombers over the Atlantic and Black Sea and fighter planes over the Baltic.
“These sizable Russian flights represent an unusual level of air activity over European air space,” NATO said reported the UK’s Guardian.
Tensions between Russia and the Western nations that make up NATO remain heightened because of the situation in Ukraine. Some are even saying we are heading back into another Cold War between Russia and the West.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is dedicated to building up Russia’s military, which the Guardian wrote had been undermined by the economic troubles that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union.
