Ekhlas Mohammed became engaged to a quiet Iraqi soldier from across town. He was the man of her dreams, and she couldn’t wait for the day the two could be married. If only love were that simple. Extremists from the terror group ISIS seized the town of Dhuluiya where they both lived. Her fiancé took up arms to fight off the group, and the two became separated.

Don’t worry, I have your happy ending! As they say, love conquers all, and the two found a way to be married anyway. A daring escape was performed that took the bride from town along the Tigris River in a boat for a secret wedding with her in-hiding fiancé.

Despite the life and death dangers that faced them both, they chose love over fear.

The two were able to meet and be married in a secret ceremony despite the danger and death threats against them. In fact, when the bride first saw her fiancé standing on the side of the river, she said: “I realized my dream was coming true.”

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love? Does it beat taking a boat past ISIS?
