A robber in Guangdong Province maximized his thefts with a POS device for charging people’s credit cards when they didn’t have enough cash.
Police in Shenzhen’s Luohu District first heard about him when a victim said she was held at knifepoint while her bank card was swiped for 2,000 yuan (about $325), according to Nandu.
The woman was advertizing a place for rent and met with a guy who claimed to be interested. However, he turned out to be a thief, and used the device with his cellphone to check all six of her cards til he found one with money on it.
The 28-year-old man was eventually caught; he was unemployed, and deeply in debt to a loan shark, which was why he was trying to raise money this way.
