In an exclusive interview with Vision Times, democracy activist and Global Vice Chair of the Federation for a Democratic China Sheng Xue offered an in-depth analysis of why the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cannot tolerate Falun Gong and Shen Yun Performing Arts.
She emphasized that the values represented by these groups — Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance — stand in direct opposition to the CCP’s culture of falsehood, hatred, and violence, posing a profound threat to its ideological control and international propaganda efforts.
The CCP’s Ideological Crisis: The Threat of Falun Gong
Sheng Xue believes that the CCP’s hostility toward Falun Gong stems from its fear of the group’s core values. “Falun Gong’s advocacy for Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance completely dismantles the CCP’s culture of lies, hatred, and violence. If more people embrace these values, they will break free from the CCP’s mental and ideological control—a scenario the regime cannot tolerate,” she told Vision Times.
“Falun Gong practitioners cultivate themselves through kindness, making the world a better place. This belief system fundamentally challenges the CCP’s rule based on fear and deception,” Sheng stressed.

Although Falun Gong is a spiritual practice, Sheng highlighted its growing international influence as a major force against authoritarian repression. In media advocacy and international diplomacy, Falun Gong has consistently thwarted the CCP’s infiltration and propaganda campaigns.
Shen Yun’s Global Cultural Impact
The CCP’s suppression of Shen Yun Performing Arts similarly stems from its rapidly expanding global influence.
Since its founding in New York in 2006, Shen Yun has grown from one performing company to eight touring ensembles, performing in nearly 200 cities worldwide each year and drawing a diverse audience, including overseas Chinese communities. The performing arts troupe is widely considered the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company.
“I witnessed Shen Yun’s journey from its humble beginnings to its current global prominence—a journey marked by wisdom, relentless effort, and artistic excellence,” Sheng recalled.

She noted that Shen Yun is more than just a cultural performance; it carries a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture and promote universal values. This mission threatens the CCP, whose state-sponsored cultural initiatives have failed to match Shen Yun’s international reach and prestige.
Suppression and Fear Behind the CCP’s Actions
According to recent reports, the CCP’s global suppression of Shen Yun and Falun Gong has intensified, including spreading false information through media outlets, applying political pressure, and issuing violent threats. Sheng observed that these actions underscore the success and influence of Falun Gong and Shen Yun.
“The harder the CCP tries to discredit them, the more it proves how effective Falun Gong and Shen Yun really are,” she said.
Manipulating International Media and Legal Systems
Sheng criticized the CCP for leveraging international media and legal systems to launch attacks, including spreading false reports about Falun Gong and Shen Yun and manipulating certain Western media outlets to engage in malicious reporting.
“The CCP exploits democratic legal systems in the West to suppress dissenting voices, exposing its desperation and malice,” she asserted.
She further highlighted that Falun Gong-founded media outlets pose a significant threat to the CCP due to their independence and credibility. “Authentic and independent journalism is something the CCP can never control.”
Standing for Truth and Humanity
Sheng urged the international community to recognize the CCP’s true nature: “The CCP is a ruthless authoritarian regime whose repression of Falun Gong and Shen Yun is, in essence, a fight against universal values.”

She emphasized that this is not merely a political or cultural conflict, but a choice between principles: “Everyone must choose whether to stand on the side of the CCP’s lies and persecution or on the side of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Protecting Falun Gong and Shen Yun means safeguarding our shared freedoms and future.”
