Daniel A. Bell is a professor of ethics and political philosophy, and the director for the Centre for International and Comparative Political Philosophy at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He is also Zhiyuan Chair Professor of Arts and Humanities, Shanghai Jiaotong University.
He was born in Montreal and educated at McGill and Oxford. He has taught in Singapore and Hong Kong, and has held research fellowships at Princeton’s University Centre for Human Values and Stanford’s Centre for Advanced Study in the Behavioural Sciences.
Recently, he wrote an article for the London Financial Times. The article is about how the Chinese people choose their leadership in a reasonable way. He posits that China is no longer a traditional dictatorship, but a government with professionals and expertise representing the new look of China.
Read the feedback to his article posted by Chinese readers;
“If Daniel Bell admires the autocracy of the Chinese communist regime so much, why doesn’t he promote the dictatorship and implement it in Canada? The conclusion is that Daniel Bell knows perfectly well that he is trading his conscience with the regime. He is lying. He is just a running dog for the regime.”
“Alas! My recommendation is to present him the Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party such that he can understand the evil face behind the mask.”
“Ha! Ha! Perhaps he has bent his principles to his interests. Even though his eyes are open, he can’t see the crisis right before him. The regime is on the verge of ultimate collapse and even the communist authorities know it and have been preparing to abandon ship.
“It is so disappointing that an intellectual like Daniel bell can be so naive and lack wisdom. Yet, it is possible that we simply fail to understand him correctly. Just like Neil Heywood, the British businessman killed by Gu Kailai, he may want to gain personally from what he does.
:It is very dangerous and later can cost his life. Please conduct yourself well, Daniel. The ultimate truth will be soon revealed. Once that day comes, let us see who will be the stray dog that walks away with a drooping tail between their legs. If he does not bail out fast enough, he can’t escape from being named as a Fascist’s accomplice.”
“My assessment is that this guy has been brain-washed by his wife. Watch out! She may be using you for money laundering, which will cost you a life sentence in jail.”
“Daniel Bell is stupid and has been brain-washed by the Chinese communist regime. All that he said can only be found in the Xinhua News Agency or the People’s Daily. He reads like he is a disguised spy dispatched by the Chinese communist regime to Canada. Idiot!”
OZ Idler against Communists
:Not only do the Chinese communists target their “Unified Front Work” at domestic and overseas Chinese, they also extend the work on Westerners. There are many political opportunists in Western societies.
“They are bombarded by the Chinese communist regime’s ‘Sugar-Coated Cannons’ and make comments in favour of the regime. Daniel Bell’s wife, Song Bing, might be a ‘swallow’ purposely arranged by the regime.”
“There has been Edgar Snow and now comes Daniel Bell. The Chinese communist regime always finds its way of recruiting such thugs who are willing to trade their conscience with devils. Is the regime a dictatorship?
“Just ask any Chinese or conduct a quick survey, you will know the anger of the people. Why do only foreigners’ statements count? It is so clear to me that they are trying to evade something.”
Chinese in Canada
“According to the article, “Daniel Bell also owns a Thai restaurant business and organises hockey games for the Westerners living in Beijing in addition to his regular work of teaching. He certainly would not miss the opportunity of iterating to his friends ‘the modern meaning of Confucianism’, which intrigues him quite a bit.
“Can any netizen in Beijing help search for this restaurant so that we can boycott this political opportunist. He has been acting like Sima Nan and Kong Qingdong. Daniel Bell is the shame of Canada!”
