Daniel A. Bell is a professor of ethics and political philosophy, and the director for the Centre for International and Comparative Political Philosophy at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He is also Zhiyuan Chair Professor of Arts and Humanities, Shanghai Jiaotong University.

He was born in Montreal and educated at McGill and Oxford. He has taught in Singapore and Hong Kong, and has held research fellowships at Princeton’s University Centre for Human Values and Stanford’s Centre for Advanced Study in the Behavioural Sciences.

Recently, he wrote an article for the London Financial Times. The article is about how the Chinese people choose their leadership in a reasonable way. He posits that China is no longer a traditional dictatorship, but a government with professionals and expertise representing the new look of China.
