During Zhou Yongkang’s tenure as the incredibly powerful domestic security czar, China’s stability maintenance expenses skyrocketed, even exceeding military expenditures. Just how much money ended up in the hands of Zhou’s family is anyone’s guess. Reuters reported: “The sheer size of the asset seizures and the scale of the investigations into the people around Zhou Yongkang—both unreported until now—make the corruption probe unprecedented in modern China, and would appear to show that President Xi Jinping is tackling graft at the highest levels.”
According to the report, Zhou and all his relatives’ homes have been raided three times—a total of 29 residences spread over seven provinces.
Investigations show that Zhou owns more than 300 housing units, 37 billion yuan from financial institution accounts, and 50 billion yuan from securities in finance, petroleum, wine, and aviation. In addition, the total value of gold pieces, jewelry, and art works is beyond estimation. If all this is true, it makes Zhou the most corrupt official since the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).High prices in housing have been the toughest issue to solve in China, and yet Zhou alone owns over 300 apartment buildings. What do people in China think?
Zhou Yongkang possesses such a huge amount of wealth, but what about other top dogs? Zhou has become the forerunner of corrupt officials with billions of yuan worth of assets in China. We are sure about one thing, and that is he will not be the last one.
Zhou’s most sinister secrets
Now, Zhou Yongkang is down, and Xi Jinping can eat well, but will his most sinister crimes ever be addressed by Xi?
Investigative reporters and human rights lawyers have concluded that Zhou has been directly involved in the live organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience, the majority being Falun Gong practitioners.
The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), a human rights group, published audio recordings of six phone calls back in April 2012, made between 2008 and mid-April 2012, that show that knowledge of organ harvesting is apparently widespread among top-level Party leaders, according to a report on organ harvesting by award-winning investigative journalist Matthew Robertson of the Epoch Times.
“These calls clearly show that the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee (PLAC), and Zhou Yongkang, were directly involved in the live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners,” according to the report.
Li Changchun responded by saying: “Zhou Yongkang is in charge of this specifically. He knows it.”
