Bloggers Ridicule Promo Video for ‘Hacker School’ in China

It may look like a spoof but this ad about the Shandong Lanxiang Vocational School is totally serious, including the large-scale excavator training at the end!

In 2010, The New York Times linked the institution with cyber-attacks against several U.S. government agencies, and companies like Google, leading to it being nicknamed the “hacker school” by Chinese netizens.

Following recent scandals at the school, bloggers have been joking about this footage on Sina Weibo. Apparently the main guy in the video is better known for playing Chairman Mao in movies and TV shows!?

Not sure whether to laugh or be scared… It reminds me a bit of the OTT recruitment campaigns that the Public Security Bureau has been doing in Sichuan Province recently.
