Engagements in China can be so creative that they often hit the headlines.

Recently, photos of a Wenzhou University teacher’s engagement party went viral online, and even the college dean and secretary congratulated him.

Two weeks earlier, some students saw a post on teacher Hua Fang’s WeChat messenger account saying he wanted to propose but had no idea how. So they worked out a plan for him.

They gathered in the square at Wenzhou University on Nov. 24, and put candles on both sides of the pond in the shape of a heart with candles in the middle. Each student held two roses, and hid in the crowd waiting for the teacher and his girlfriend.

When they arrived, the students came out one by one and handed roses to the girlfriend.

She was really touched and surprised, and said “yes” to the proposal.
