Accordions are an incredibly satisfying kind of instrument. If not played well though, they can be a dull and painful experience.
I have chosen five very different accordion clips to highlight why I’m all for this beautiful instrument.
1. You can play Vivaldi on accordion.
It can require extreme skill, which in my eyes makes it super impressive.
2. They are a mobile instrument.
You can walk with an accordion and still play the instrument well. Beirut gives us a fine example of this; they make it look and sound cool, but never pretentious.
3. Accordions are fun.
You can cover pop songs with a group of fellow accordion players. What’s not fun about the idea of being in some kind of accordion gang?
4. They have that Balkan Gypsy sound.
5. Accordions are super cinematic.
The way Yann Tiersen plays accordion is French, cinematic, and all kinds of magic.
The accordion’s basic form is believed to have been invented in Berlin in 1822, and being a big fan of Berlin, this fun fact gives me another reason to be on the accordion bandwagon.
