Yes, you read the title right and no, it’s not a typo. Kanye West announced during a very long-winded, confusing, and yet passionate speech at the MTV VMA Awards that in 2020 he will run for president. Kanye made the announcement after he accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award from Taylor Swift.
The Hollywood Reporter writes: “Swift introduced him with a reference to her 2009 MTV VMA acceptance speech that he interrupted by hopping on stage and grabbing the microphone away from her: “It seemed like everyone knew about our infamous encounter at the VMAs,” she said, and quipped, “I’m really happy for you and imma let you finish.” During her 2009 speech, West said to Swift, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you and imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”

Kanye’s long and confusing speech consisted of him talking about his run-in with Swift, to going to getting juice at the grocery store with his daughter, to getting booed by 60,000 people at a baseball game.
News.com.au reported: “The contradiction is that I do fight for artists but in that fight, somehow, was disrespectful to artists,” he said of interrupting Swift. “I didn’t know how to say the right thing, the perfect thing, I sat at the Grammys and saw Justin Timberlake and CeeLo Green lose. Gnarls Barkley and the [FutureSex/LoveSound] album, and bro, Justin, I’m not trying to put you on blast but I saw that man in tears, bro.
“And I was thinking he deserved to win album of the year. And the small box that we are of entertainers of the evening, how could you explain that?” He gave a nod to the time 60,000 people booed him at a baseball game. He also shared a life lesson about a leather shirt and a bottle of Hennessy — because one is usually responsible for the other, News.com.au added.
Just as the audience was getting confused, he gave the reason for his obscure speech:
“Y’all might be thinking right now, ‘I wonder did he smoke something before he came out here?’ And the answer is yes, I rolled up a little something, I knocked the edge off,” he admitted, News.com.au writes.
Then he ended it with a bang that made the audience’s mouths drop, including wife Kim Kardashian.
The Verge wrote:
“And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”
It didn’t take long for the memes to roll out on social media. Here are some pretty funny ones from Twitter.
