Falun Gong adherents around the world gathered on July 20 in peaceful protest against the persecution of the practice in mainland China.

It is exactly 15 years since the Chinese Communist Party began its intense persecution. Falun Gong teaches practitioners to abide by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, and the practice rapidly spread by worth of mouth after it was made public in 1992, with an estimated 100 million Chinese thought to have been practicing prior to the persecution.

These photo collages from James Smith Photography are from this year’s rally and candlelight vigil in Washington D.C. where overseas practitioners solemnly remembered the deaths and suffering of millions from the brutalities of the persecution.
