‘Force Works’: Iron Man’s Alternate Avengers Were So Cool

Iron Man formed his own Avengers-related offshoot team in the midst of his disputes with the Avengers of the 90s.

‘Force Works’ is a mighty little Avengers offshoot team.

He was fed up and formed Force Works in the rubble of what was left from the West Coast Avengers. Force Works is actually an important chapter in the history of Iron Man. Force Works led him to stranger adventures in The Crossing.

Besides Iron Man, the team had US Agent, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, War Machine, and Spider-Woman.

Force Works only ran from 1994 to 1996, less than 2 years. The team also appeared in the Iron Man cartoon from the same era. There is supposed to be a second Force Works, but their membership and current status remains to be seen.

Force Works is unique among all those little Avengers spin offs. They held a different philosophy. They took a proactive approach to stopping supervillains. They had a system of predicting disaster by combining the Scarlet Witch’s abilities with technology invented by Iron Man. Genius! But it didn’t necessarily prevent conflicts between Tony Stark and Scarlet Witch, and it didn’t prevent the death of Wonder Man.

Iron Man put Scarlet Witch in charge of Force Works. But after he drifted away the team eventually disbanded. The members either dropped off the map or joined up with the main Avengers team.

The book was written by the successful team of Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett, known for their work on Guardians of the Galaxy and other popular comics.

Force Works carries that crazy 1990s era comic book art. It was a unique team, and I hope they come back in some form. And any team with Spider-Woman II/Arachne gets my vote. Hope to see her and the rest of the Force Works team back in action soon.
