ANNANDALE, Virginia — On Oct. 25, the 75th Annual Annandale Parade marched through the town’s business district, bringing together hundreds of spectators and participants in a vibrant celebration of community spirit and tradition. Known as one of the “best small town parades in America,” the event drew in many families, school groups, scouts, and performers from across Northern Virginia to enjoy a day of sunshine and hometown pride.
Sponsored by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, the parade route stretched along Columbia Pike from the historic white church to the Annandale Shopping Center near Gallows Road, featuring more than 60 local groups and a colorful lineup of floats, storybook characters, and several international dance troupes. “This 25-year-old tradition only gets bigger and better every year,” organizers said, reflecting the event’s enduring place in the local cultural tapestry.

Event highlights
Among the highlights were performances by the Marching Atoms, a float demonstration by local Falun Gong practitioners, Encore Theatrical Arts Project, and traditional Bolivian folk dancing by groups such as Caporales San Simon VA US and Salay Bolivia USA. Boy Scout Troop & Cub Pack 150 once again led the parade, as they have since the event’s inception.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual discipline rooted in the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Despite being peaceful in nature, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal persecution campaign targeting the faith in 1999. The persecution has continued unabated for over two decades now.

Also in attendance was Vivian Watts, delegate for Virginia’s 39th House District, who joined residents in celebrating the 75th anniversary of this cherished Annandale tradition. Watts was seen waving to parade attendees as she rode along the Columbia Pike route, greeting families and community members who lined the sidewalks.

This year’s Parade Marshal was Bill Richmond, Volunteer Chief of the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD), who has served the community since 2013. Richmond was honored for his dedication and leadership in local fire service and his 26-year career as a U.S. Navy Intelligence Officer. “Annandale thanks these brave and selfless members for their continued service to our community,” the Chamber stated, recognizing the AVFD’s essential role in maintaining safety at these events.
As the crowds cheered and children waved from the sidewalks in their Halloween costumes, the sense of hometown pride was unmistakable. The Annandale Parade remains a shining example of small-town Americana, uniting generations in celebration, gratitude, and community spirit.
