The Downside of Top-Down Building Planning

The video talks about the construction of the new headquarters for Chinese government paper Ren Min Bao (People’s Daily). Although still under-construction, the current look of the building has been provoking much blushing. Instead of explaining the situation, that the final shape of the building will not be so blush-inducing, the government has been trying to squelch the giggles by even censoring the term “People’s Daily Building” on the internet. As Chris points out: the Chinese government may not have the best PR team when it comes to their projects.

I know this isn’t technically “news” (the story’s over a year old), but well worth a gander for those who haven’t been in the know about the latest form of street porn around town. And, to be fair, I tried Googling to see how the building looks now and didn’t find much improvement. Let me know if it has.
