The benefits of meditation from a scientific perspective are being discovered more and more.

Benefits like increasing your mood, happiness, as well as helping your social life, are well documented.

Research has also found it helps with the ability to feel empathy and keeps you focused.

A new study revealed a bit more about meditation that will be beneficial for those thinking about starting.

The study found that within just 8 weeks of starting meditation, grey matter developed in the brain (what helps memory and learning). In just 8 weeks meditation changed the brain in a way that was detectable by an MRI.

The researcher of this study was Harvard neuroscientist Dr. Sara Lazar. She concluded:

If you use a particular part of your brain, it’s going to grow because you are using it. It really is mental exercise.

Meditation comes in many different forms. One very popular eastern form of mediation is Falun Gong, which involves 5 sets of easy, slow-moving meditation exercises, and teaches practitioners to be truthful, compassionate, and tolerant in their daily lives.

Science is still figuring out the benefits of meditation, but all signs point to the fact that it’s very good for you.
