Tony Hawk Takes World’s First Hoverboard for a Ride (It’s Real)

Has a skateboard that can ride on air actually arrived? I’d say almost. It’s the closest we’re going to get at this point.

The technology is magnetic. The board suspends itself on electromagnetic energy over a copper surface.

That means unless you have the proper surface, they won’t work.

If you’ve got a skatepark covered with copper flooring of a certain thickness, than you’re set. The magnet engines of the hoverboard will push off against the copper. But copper is expensive. A copper skatepark would be much more expensive to build than the standard ones.

Imagine when you can finally hover in the air with them.

Anyway, we can see that hoverboards are in active development. Let’s see where it goes.
