CIA‑Led Deception Helped Mask Mission as Insider Leaks Threatened Iran Rescue

This past weekend, the world witnessed a breathtaking real-life military rescue operation worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster. U.S. President Trump directed the mission from the White House, while U.S. special forces penetrated deep into enemy territory in Iran. Under the cover of overwhelming airpower, they miraculously rescued a U.S. Air Force F-15E colonel who had been trapped for over 36 hours in mountains 7,000 feet high.

Praised by President Trump as an “Easter miracle,” the operation not only set a historic precedent—the first time the U.S. military successfully rescued two pilots deep within enemy territory—but also sent a clear message to authoritarian regimes worldwide, including Iran: the United States will never abandon its soldiers. Yet behind the glory and miracle, a storm concerning U.S. national security and potential “Deep State” leaks in Washington was just beginning to unfold.

Risky moves: CIA strategic deception and the deadly betrayal of an ‘insider’

Looking back, this was a pinnacle clash of intelligence and counterintelligence. On Friday, a U.S. F-15E was shot down over Iranian airspace during a mission. The two crew members ejected; one pilot was rescued the same day.

What was astonishing was the CIA’s highly sophisticated strategic deception. According to President Trump, the Iranian military initially had no idea that a second U.S. serviceman—the colonel responsible for the weapons system—was still in enemy hands. The CIA publicly created the illusion that only one pilot had ejected and been rescued, while secretly racing against time to locate the colonel’s exact position.

However, this delicate intelligence operation was ruthlessly undermined by a “political mole” within the U.S. government. The insider leaked the information that the second pilot was still at large to the media.

Once the news broke, Iranian authorities jumped at the opportunity, immediately offering a 100 million rial (about $60,000) bounty to capture the U.S. colonel and mobilizing heavy forces across three provinces for a thorough search. At one point, enemy troops even came close to the colonel’s hiding spot.

This leak effectively turned an American soldier’s life into a political pawn. It exponentially increased the difficulty of the rescue and constituted an outright betrayal of U.S. national security.

Survival against all odds and a rescue at any cost

Cornered by enemy forces, the brave colonel displayed extraordinary combat discipline. Gravely injured, he climbed the icy mountain ridge at 7,000 feet and survived over 36 hours with only a handgun for self-defense, enduring until his country came to rescue him.

Faced with the crisis, President Trump demonstrated decisive leadership. He immediately ordered other major operations in Iran to pause, prioritizing all resources for the rescue mission. Hundreds of special operations experts from various branches were rapidly mobilized.

Before midnight on Saturday, under the cover of dozens of U.S. aircraft equipped with the world’s deadliest weapons delivering heavy air suppression, the assault team descended into the heart of Iran like angels of war. Meanwhile, congratulations from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz afterward hinted that Israeli intelligence agencies, including Mossad, provided key support, highlighting the strength of the U.S.-Israel alliance.

To ensure the mission’s absolute success and prevent advanced U.S. equipment from falling into enemy hands, U.S. forces even destroyed two special transport aircraft during the retreat (each costing over $100 million). The $200+ million in equipment loss resulted in zero casualties among the rescue team and the safe extraction of the colonel to Kuwait for medical treatment.

This is the essence of American values: equipment has a price, but the lives of U.S. soldiers are priceless. It stands in stark contrast to authoritarian regimes that treat human life as expendable and routinely use civilians or soldiers as cannon fodder.

Swift accountability for leaks and new strikes on Iran

The hero is home, but the reckoning has just begun.

President Trump expressed extreme anger over the leak that nearly cost the colonel his life. He issued an ultimatum: if media outlets do not reveal the identity of the leaker, their leadership will face criminal liability. Insiders within the system, once identified, will face severe imprisonment.

Even more alarming to Tehran, without hostages constraining them, U.S. strategic freedom is now fully restored. Reports indicate that immediately after confirming the rescue, President Trump instructed the Pentagon to draft a new, more devastating strike plan against Iran.

Many define President Trump as a businessman, prone to deal-making, but in this rescue, where even professional military advisors were opposed, he ultimately made the final decision.
