Taiwanese social media influencer Ba Jiong (八炯) risked everything to expose the shadowy operations of Communist China’s United Front. His documentary, “China’s United Front: Part I,” has amassed over 2.8 million views on YouTube, and sparked a reckoning over the corruption and propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The “United Front” (统一战线) refers to the CCP’s efforts to co-opt elites and sway public opinion. United front tactics were instrumental for the communist forces to secure their 1949 victory in the Chinese Civil War, and have continued to be deployed abroad as Beijing hopes to advance its interests globally.

In an exclusive interview with Vision Times, Ba Jiong delved into his motivations for creating the documentary, the danger-laden process of the work, and explosive revelations he has planned for the sequel.

When the CCP defeated the Nationalist Chinese government on mainland China, the latter fled to the island of Taiwan and eventually transitioned to a democratic system. Communist China, which views Taiwan as a rightful part of its own territory, not only carries out frequent military drills to harass the island and its over 20 million residents, but also directs significant resources to United Front operations intended to draw Taiwan closer to Beijing.

Ba Jiong’s investigation not only offers recent insights on how CCP United Front work targets social media influencers in Taiwan, but also uncovered blatant embezzlement of United Front funds in Fujian Province, implicating high-ranking officials, bank executives, and representatives of the United Front.

Exposing ‘United Front’ operations

Ba Jiong, who has over 1 million subscribers on his YouTube channel “Fun TV,” said that frustration with denials of Beijing’s United Front work in Taiwan served as part of his motivation for producing the documentary. Determined to produce irrefutable evidence, he and his team embarked on undercover investigations across Taiwan and mainland China.

“Everyone studying the CCP knows the United Front has operated for decades, targeting not only Taiwan but Western countries. Yet, no one dared expose it with solid evidence. Why hasn’t anyone from Taiwan’s arts, entertainment, or sports industries come forward to reveal these offers and bribes?” he questions.

“We hope that high-level officials in China or anti-Xi factions can see this film and recognize the corruption in Fujian. The economy is crumbling, yet officials embezzle millions. A Taiwanese recipient might get 1 million RMB, but records show 5 million RMB paid out. Where did the extra 4 million go? To United Front officials, bank managers, and provincial leaders. The Chinese people will bear this debt while Xi Jinping claims to fight corruption,” Ba Jiong said.

‘Raise, trap, kill’

Central to the film is Chen Boyuan, a former pro-CCP activist turned whistleblower. Once a fervent pro-CCP nationalist, Chen’s perspective shifted after he himself became a victim of the mainland Chinese judicial system.

“I was furious when Chen released ‘The Fujian Ship’, using China’s aircraft carrier to intimidate Taiwan. I attacked him online without hesitation,” Ba Jiong recalled.

However, after being framed by the son of a senior Party official, Chen was branded a supporter of Taiwan independence and subjected to relentless judicial harassment. Stripped of his status and dignity, Chen began to see through the CCP’s authoritarian facade.

“He lost a legal case simply because the official’s son was involved. That’s the reality of CCP corruption,” Ba Jiong explained. Their shared disillusionment with the CCP led to their collaboration on the groundbreaking documentary.

In the documentary, Ba Jiong introduced and discussed the CCP’s so-called “raise, trap, kill” strategy. Through this tactic, Taiwanese social media influencers are cultivated with lucrative sponsorships and perks, only to be coerced later into promoting pro-Beijing narratives.

“This isn’t surprising to me after years of research,” Ba Jiong stated. “What shocked people was the concrete evidence we presented. We turned rumors into undeniable proof.”

The documentary’s release dealt a significant shock to Beijing. The mainland Chinese Taiwan Affairs Office issued vehement denials, while pro-CCP online trolls unleashed a wave of harassment against Taiwanese influencers.

“This proves our strategy worked — raising the cost of collaborating with the CCP,” Ba Jiong remarked, noting that many influencers have reconsidered accepting pro-China deals.

Breaking through the Great Firewall

Ba Jiong’s team also devised innovative methods to bypass China’s strict internet censorship. They strategically deployed “friendly actors” in rural China, who pretended to support the CCP while sharing inflammatory posts that piqued locals’ curiosity. Once engaged, these individuals directed users to uncensored content via private messages.

“The spark of curiosity can ignite resistance,” Ba Jiong explained, detailing how rural internet users are often the most susceptible to CCP propaganda but also the most eager to seek alternative narratives when given the chance.

A glimpse of Part II

The upcoming sequel promises to delve even deeper into CCP corruption, with a focus on how China’s banking system facilitates financial crimes under the guise of United Front operations. Ba Jiong hinted at shocking revelations about the siphoning of funds from ordinary Chinese citizens.

“We aim to sever the CCP’s financial channels,” he stated firmly. “China’s United Front: Part II” is slated for release in late December 2024, building anticipation for even more explosive findings.

Through fearless investigation and a commitment to exposing authoritarian corruption, Ba Jiong’s documentary has ignited a global conversation about the CCP’s shadowy tactics. As public interest continues to grow, the series stands as a testament to the resilience of individuals willing to challenge an oppressive system. With Part II on the horizon, the world watches closely as the fight for truth unfolds.
