In today’s fast-moving world, many of us are busy, busy, busy. Work, school, family, and daily responsibilities consume our time to the point that we often neglect to appreciate the world around us and enjoy nature.
Nature is always present, but it can go unnoticed. Trees, flowers, birds, the sky, and even the wind can bring peace and happiness; but when we are busy, it seems hard to make time for nature.
Years ago, while waiting in the lobby for a job interview, I noticed that the indoor plants had been exquisitely maintained. I was awed by them at the time; but after I got the job and became absorbed with work, I hardly noticed them anymore.
One day, the flowers caught my eye, and I thought, “how did you find time to bloom amidst this environment?” We often feel like we don’t have enough time; but actually, we don’t have the mindset to enjoy nature when we’re busy.
Do you have a limiting notion that you need to travel to a forest or go hiking in the mountains to enjoy nature? You really don’t have to go far or spend a lot of time or money. With the right attitude and just a little effort, you can feel closer to nature even on your busiest days.

When God made the world, He created light and nature before human beings. A wise sage once said that nature is a spiritual teacher, because it quietly shows us how to live. Take trees, for example: they stay strong, yet flexible through sunshine and storms, day and night, never changing with joy or sorrow.
1. Nature helps reduce stress
When we spend time in nature, we often feel calmer. The sound of birds, the rustling of leaves, or the sight of a clear sky gives the mind a break from busy thoughts. Many studies have shown that being in nature can reduce stress and anxiety, and improve our mood.
2. Nature improves our health
Nature is good for our physical health, too. Fresh air, sunlight, and gentle activity like walking are refreshing and invigorating. Sunlight helps our bodies make vitamin D, which is important for strong bones and a healthy immune system. Being outside can also help us sleep better at night.
3. Nature helps us focus
Spending time in green spaces can improve our focus and attention. This is especially helpful for people who work or study a lot. A short walk in a park or even looking out the window at trees can help us think more clearly and feel more awake.
4. Nature reminds us to slow down
We often rush through life, going from one task to the next. Nature reminds us to slow down. Watching a bird, listening to the rain, or looking at the stars can help us feel more present. It teaches us to enjoy simple moments.
Simple ways fit nature into your packed schedule

You don’t need a lot of time to enjoy nature. Even five minutes can make a difference. Here are some easy ways to connect with nature, amidst your busy life:
1. Take short outdoor breaks
Instead of staying indoors all day, try to step outside for a few minutes. You can drink your morning coffee on your balcony, take a short walk during lunch, or simply stand by a window and look outside. These small moments can refresh your mind.
Add “go outside” to your calendar or reminders. Treat it like an appointment with yourself. It doesn’t need to be long; just 10–15 minutes a day can be beneficial.
2. Choose alternative transportation and routes
If you need to go somewhere nearby, try walking or cycling. This helps you see more of the world around you. If you do drive, try taking the scenic route. When you’re on a bus, look out the window instead of at your phone. Even short moments of looking at trees or clouds can help.
3. Bring nature into your home or office

If it is hard to get outdoors, bring nature to you. Place a small plant on your desk, or hang nature-themed art on the wall. Even these small touches can make a space feel more relaxing.
4. Open your windows
Let in natural light and air. If possible, situate yourself next to a window to feel more connected to the outside world.
5. Find nature in your neighborhood
You don’t need to plan a big trip to enjoy nature. Brief visits to a local park, garden, or nature trail can happen daily — or at least weekly. Spend 20–30 minutes walking, sitting under a tree, or just breathing in the fresh air. It doesn’t have to take your whole day.
6. Practice mindfulness in nature
Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment. When you’re outside, try to focus on what you see, hear, and feel. Notice the color of the leaves, the feel of the wind, or the sounds of birds. This helps you enjoy nature more deeply.
7. Take your regular activities outside
If you like to read, draw, stretch, or talk on the phone, try doing these things outside. You can sit on your porch, go to the park, or use your own backyard. Doing everyday things outside is a great way to enjoy nature without changing your schedule.
8. Try gardening

Even a small garden can bring joy. A small patch of soil or just a few pots can support flowers, herbs, or vegetables. Tending your plants gives you a direct connection with the natural world. It is a relaxing activity that can bring much satisfaction as you watch your green friends grow.
9. Sky gazing
You don’t have to go far to enjoy the beauty of the sky. Look at the clouds during the day or the stars at night — you might even develop an interest in astronomy. Watching the sunrise or sunset is also a peaceful way to begin or end your day.
10. Give yourself a break from technology
Sometimes we are so glued to our phones, computers, and other screens that we forget to look around. Try turning off your devices for a while and just sit outside. Listen to the sounds, breathe deeply, and give your eyes a break.
Tips for staying motivated
- Keep it simple: You don’t need to plan big trips. Start small.
- Track your mood: Notice how you feel before and after time outdoors.
- Invite a friend: Being in nature with company can be twice as nice.
- Try photography or sketching: Capturing your surroundings visually helps you notice the details.
No matter how busy your life is, there is always a way to enjoy nature. It is free, available to almost everyone, and doesn’t require much of you. It only takes a few minutes to step outside and notice the beauty around you.
Studies show that spending just 15 minutes a day in natural spaces can help reduce stress, improve focus, and lift our mood. Fresh air, sunshine, and green spaces help our brains and bodies feel better.
So, next time you feel tired or stressed, remember that nature is waiting to welcome you.
